Nottingham Forest are keen on signing former Spurs defender Serge Aurier and want to add the free agent to their growing list of summer acquisitions, according to French news outlet RMC Sport .(via Nottingham Forest News)
The report claims that Reims, Nantes, Atletico Madrid, Fulham and Galatasaray have all considered a move for the 29-year-old, however, Forest are said to be showing the most interest at this stage.
RMC Sport journalist, Loic Tanzi had reported back in July that Fulham were looking to sign the former Spurs defender, however, interest from Marco Silva’s side appears to have cooled off.
The Ivorian international spent four years at Spurs, making over 100 appearances for the club before departing to Spanish club Villareal on a free transfer after the cancellation of his contract last summer (transfermarkt).
However, Aurier once again finds himself a free agent this summer after Villarreal decided against extending his contract for another season in La Liga (Fabrizio Romano).
Our View
Serge Aurier had a fairly decent time at Spurs before eventually falling out under Jose Mourinho. Things turned sour really quickly and the Ivory Coast defender found himself surplus to requirements.
Aurier is just 29 and can still be a decent player for a low level Premier League team. Nottingham Forest could do with the experience that the defender possesses, but also need to be wary of his rash decision-making, which can prove to be costly.
