Tottenham Hotspur are attempting to bring in Udinese full-back Destiny Udogie during the current transfer window, according to Daily Mail.

The Serie A side value the left wing-back in the region of £25million and are keen to take him back on loan for the upcoming season, which is something Tottenham are prepared to accept to allow the 19-year-old to continue to gain regular firsr-team football as part of his development

Udogie is currently under contract with Udinese until 2026, but that has not stopped potential suitors from expressing their interest in his signature. Spurs are not alone in having the Italian Under-21 international on their radar, with Manchester City, Inter Milan and Brighton and Hove Albion all said to be keen on the talented teenager.

The former Hellas Verona academy graduate is reported to be interested in working under Antonio Conte, with the Italian having recommended his signing to the Tottenham board.

Spurs are hopeful that managing director of football, Fabio Paratici’s warm relations with Udinese will help the north Londoners to be able to secure the services of the player, who is thought to be close to being called up to the senior Italian national side.

Paratici has extensive experience working within the Italian transfer market, having spent over eleven years at Juventus as a sports director (Daily Mail).

Our View

Signing a left wing-back should not be among our priorities, considering how we have recently brought in Ivan Perisic from Inter on a free transfer (BBC). In fact, that position is overloaded at this moment, with Sergio Reguilon being deemed dispensable as he looks set to be on the way out of N17 as of now (Football.London).

Hence, the attempt to sign Udogie from our side can be considered a bit puzzling when we have other areas in the team that could use reinforcements. However, looking at how Conte wants to loan the Italian youngster back to his current club, it seems like their interest is with plans for the future in mind.

Perisic is in the twilight of his playing career and would need to be replaced anyway. Perhaps, we may also see him get shifted to the left-wing role to provide backup to Son Heung-Min after Steven Bergwijn left to join Ajax for a fee in the region of £26million (The Sun).

Udogie has shown all the signs of being a future superstar in the making at this point. In fact, he could even earn his first call up to the senior national team shortly at such a young age. Hence, signing him as early as possible could prove to be a great piece of business from our side, with other clubs also being interested in securing his services.
