Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on 21-year-old Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite and could face competition for his signature, according to talkSPORT,

The report adds that while the left-footed centre-back has caught the eye of Spurs, they could face competition from Manchester United and Newcastle United if they look to proceed with their interest when the transfer widow opens next month.

Branthwaite made an impression for himself out on loan at PSV Eindhoven last season. He has established himself as a mainstay in Sean Dyche’s team and understandably caught the eye of Premier League rivals.

TEAMtalk also revealed last month that Manchester United would compete with Spurs for the player’s signature with the former Premier League champions looking to add defensive reinforcements in the New Year.

Spurs need central defensive cover

It is not always you see a Liverpool manager praise an Everton player but in Jurgen Klopp’s words, Branthwaite is “a really good left-footed centre-half” (News & Star).

Spurs are said to be closely monitoring the player’s situation at Everton but Newcastle United and Manchester United are not going to make life easy for the North London club.

The report also adds that Everton are trying to convince Branthwaite to sign a new deal but are well aware that they might have to sell him in the near future due to their current financial issues.

Spurs Musings Opinion

Spurs need a centre-back in January. We have seen how much the team has struggled in the absence of Micky van de Ven and also while Cristian Romero was suspended.

Branthwaite could be the perfect player to provide competition to Van de Ven. Considering the latter’s pacy game style, injuries could be a common occurrence in his career. However, it will be a difficult negotiation and competing with the Red Devils and the Magpies is not going to be an easy task, considering their financial might.
